Performers Biographies:
JAMES SCOTT
“Played with style and panache” is how Shelagh Rogers of CBC Radio described JAMES SCOTT’s February 2000 performance of the Tomasi Trombone Concerto with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Currently in his 31st year as Principal Trombone of the CPO, Mr. Scott has been a frequent soloist with the orchestra. He has also been the Trombone Instructor at the University of Calgary since 1981, and has been featured as a soloist there with the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and on the Celebrity Series. Other solo engagements include appearances with the Kensington Sinfonia, the Calgary Concert Band, and in recital at the University of Lethbridge. James holds both a Bachelors and a Masters degree from New York’s Juilliard School, and has performed with the New York Philharmonic, l’Orchestre symphonique de Montreal and the New Jersey Symphony. His major teachers include Edward Herman, Jr., Frank Crisafulli, and Joseph Alessi.
