GIANETTA BARIL and CPO VIRTUOSI
ARIADNE DANCES

Ariadne Dances

Marcin Swoboda, viola; Gianetta Baril, harp; Matt Heller, double bass; David Sussman, English horn.

Sara Hahn

Sara Hahn, flute.

Juno Award-winning harpist Gianetta Baril offers virtuosic versatility in duos with four Calgary Philharmonic musicians: Sara Hahn, David Sussman, Marcin Swoboda, and Matt Heller, recipient of last season’s Janice Waite Award. An endless array of colours and textures awaits, as the harp’s dramatic elegance pairs with the exotic English horn, the surprisingly lyrical double bass, and the sumptuous viola — as well as R. Murray Schafer’s masterpiece, The Crown of Ariadne, a tour-de-force for solo harp.

Program:

Jean Francaix: Duo Baroque (double bass and harp)

Antonio Pasculli: Omaggio a Bellini (English horn and harp)

Claude Debussy: Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp

R. Murray Schafer: The Crown of Ariadne (harp with percussion)

All performances at Scarboro United Church,
134 Scarboro Ave. SW, Calgary
